It's Never Too Early For The First Xmas Catalog

I got one in the mail today, August 3. This may be my earliest Christmas catalog. Has anyone out there received a Christmas catalog so far? I have nothing against the company, I just think we shouldn't skip Labor Day, Halloween, and Thanksgiving. The company has a website if you are interested: www.lakeside.com Posted by Picasa

In the back of Pier One the other day I saw large holiday wreaths being unpacked.

And today, as I was walking past the downtown department stores, I looked in their windows and thought "soon they all will be closed up while the holiday sets are built."

And don't forget Columbus Day for all your Italian friends! The holidays get longer and longer, more and more complex and costly, and less and less satisfying.

From today's paper: •Harrods in London has opened its Christmas display.

Several years ago I saw a TV interview with a British retailer on the topic of when Christmas sales started. He happily pointed out that they were not constrained by a Thanksgiving holiday.

But surely there is at least holiday between now and December the Brits have decorations for. ?

I still am sad to report that I have not received any Christmas based catalogs whatsoever...
